The Nurse Aid Registry is a federal program. It requires that nurse’s aides in Pennsylvania and elsewhere have a clean record when it comes to working in a nursing home. The registry tracks nurse’s aides who have committed abuse, neglect, or a crime against a nursing home resident. By hiring only registered nurse’s aides, Pennsylvania can make sure that its senior citizens are in the best hands possible. The Nurse Aide Registry and Required Abuse Reporting

Any care facility that receives Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement is required to verify the registration of any nurse’s aide to the registry. The failure to do so can mean serious repercussions for the facility. The government requires that care facilities report the following abuses if they occur:

• Physical abuse
• Neglect
• Fraud

Once an abuse is reported, the nurse’s aide in question can have a note made in her file. The note prohibits future employment in a Pennsylvania nursing home for that person.
