Preventing Falls on Construction Sites

It is extremely important for employers to do what they can to prevent falls on construction sites so they can protect their employees. OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) has a website specifically devoted to stopping construction site falls. It recommends that the best way to prevent falls is to Plan, Provide and Train.

Plan

Make sure that you budget for enough safety equipment when you first bid for the job. Each type of job will have different risks, so plan for the specific job you are bidding for.

Provide

If a worker falls six feet or more, he could be seriously injured or even killed. Keep this in mind when you are providing safety gear. Also, make sure you have the right kind of safety gear for the job. In addition, inspect the gear to make certain it is in proper condition.

Train

There is no point in providing gear if construction workers don’t know how to use it. In addition, teach construction workers how to spot risks that could cause problems. Encourage workers to report any safety risks that they see. OSHA offers training materials you can give your employees to help.
