Car accidents happen. They are quite common. If you are involved in an accident, there are a number of ways you can respond. One way not to respond is with anger and threats towards the other driver.
A video involving an SUV accident with a motorcycle has gone viral. The reason it has gone viral is because, after the SUV bumped a motorcycle and stopped to deal with the situation, some other motorcyclists began an attack on his car and tires. In response, the driver, fearing for his life and the lives of his wife and child, took off. When he drove off, he hit three motorcyclists. One rider is seriously injured and most likely paralyzed.
The motorcyclists chased the SUV through the streets of New York City, smashed in a window, pulled the driver out of his car and beat him. He needed stitches but was released from the hospital on the same day. His wife and child were not injured.
So far there have been two arrests for motorcyclists, including the motorcyclist who caused the initial accident. The SUV driver is not expected to be charged at this point.
Please be aware, some might find this video disturbing. The video’s title states “One Dead” this is incorrect. No one is dead, though one person was seriously hurt.
The video of the NYC Motorcycle Attack is very scary. But at the beginning it is interesting to note that the SUV driver probably isn’t responsible for the original collision. The motorcyclists were driving very recklessly. The driver of the motorcycle that was hit, cut off the SUV and then hit his brakes. The image I have at the top of the post shows the moment right before the initial accident.
The SUV stopped. The driver would most likely have freely exchanged information with the motorcycle rider who he hit. But instead of calmly dealing with the situation, some of the motorcycle riders decided to go on the attack. This resulted in a tragedy, especially for the young man who is now paralyzed.
If you are in a car accident, the best thing to do is simply remain calm. Exchange appropriate insurance and contact information. Call the police and report the accident. Do not act aggressively towards the other driver. If you feel threatened, call the police and explain the situation.
