What To Do When Hurt At Work

What Should I Do When I Am Hurt at Work?

Hurt at WorkIf you got hurt at work, it is very important that you take several steps to protect yourself and your workers’ compensation benefits. Obviously, if you are in an emergency situation, you need to call 911 and get help before you do anything else.

1. Tell your employer immediately

Let your employer know about your injury. If you do not tell your employer in a timely fashion, you can lose your benefits. It is also more likely that the insurance company will claim you were not injured at work if you don’t tell your employer right away. If you were injured off the job site and were in the course or scope of your employment you should also notify your employer right away.

2. Make sure your employer fills out a written report.

Your employer should complete a written report. Make sure you get a copy. You want to make sure it is clear that you were injured at work or doing something for work. If your employer refuses to write out a report, write one yourself and give your employer a copy.

3. Get treatment

As noted, if you are having an emergency, you should get treatment first. Otherwise, your employer might give you a list of at least six doctors and you will have to treat with one of those for the first 90 days. If the employer does not give you a list, you can go to a doctor of your choice. You should get to the doctor as soon as possible.

4. Contact Lowenthal & Abrams

Even if your employer’s insurance company is cooperating, you should call Lowenthal & Abrams’ expert* in Pennsylvania workers’ compensation law. This will allow our workers’ compensation team to be on top of your case from the beginning, should problems occur. There is no fee to call and never will be a charge if you don’t need our assistance.
