Seniors in a nursing home are at great risk for falls. Just because they are an older person; they are there because they have health care problems.
Falls occur when there are people who are not watching out for this vulnerable person. You have to make sure that the person is using the proper walking assistance and that that person knows how to use that assistance.
Other things that we can do to prevent falls that are often times not done is the use of bed alarms. Bed alarms tell somebody when they get up. Also you have to look at the foot care, do they have sores on their feet? Is it making it difficult to walk? Do they have the proper stability? When they are walking, are they walking with the proper number of people to support them and to give them aid? If these things are not taking place, that’s when falls occur that shouldn’t be occurring.
