There are federal laws that protect nursing home patients. The reason that they were implemented was to give guidelines to the nursing homes. It is really important that both the patient and the family understand what this is. The patients have a right to participate in their medical care. They have a right to know what those treatments are and they have a right to refuse those treatments if they don’t agree with them. They also have a right to privacy and most importantly they have a right to have their dignity and respect appreciated. That means that they are to be treated in a way that is not belittling, in a way that they are given the respect that they should have as an adult senior.
